"Those Yeti Have Changed In Appearance."

"It's a sort of Mark Two, isn't it."

These two metal Yeti are produced by “Warlord Games” and can be found inside the Nottingham-based company's "special limited-time offer" Doctor Who: Web Of Fear set. The blister actually contains three models of the Great Intelligence's hairy automatons, as well as figures of Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart and Professor Travers. Given away for free with any orders of £75 or more, the product is clearly based upon Mervyn Haisman and Henry Lincoln's February 1968 televised story "The Web Of Fear".

48mm in height, the "cuddly but ferocious" miniatures were primed using two coats of "Vallejo" Heavy Sienna. They were then drenched in a mixture of "Citadel" Agrax Earthshade and "The Army Painter" Strong Tone Quickshade, before being dry-brushed with (more) "Vallejo" Heavy Sienna. As a final highlight, I gave each of the redesigned robots a light dusting of "Vallejo" Heavy Brown. Finally, the monsters' eyes were layered in "Vallejo" White, treated to a coat of Sun Yellow, shaded with plenty of "Citadel" Reikland Fleshshade and later brightened with an extra dab of "Vallejo" Sun Yellow.

"Cyber-Forge Miniatures" WIPs - Captain Benjamin Crocway

Released alongside several other 'free' "Doctor Who" related sets until "Warlord Games" licence for the BBC science fiction show expires at the end of 2022, these models have caused quite some consternation on the "Doctor Who: Exterminate" Facebook page due to so many products being released simultaneously - and each requiring a separate £75 order to acquire them. Personally, considering that the manufacturer isn't allowed to actually sell them, I'm just pleased to have got my hands on these big fellas, and whilst it's frustrating that I won't be able to own all the 'new releases' before they disappear, at least they have been made available (for free) for those who want them.

Moving along from my opening Movember models, yet sticking with science fiction, I have managed to 3D print and progress Captain Benjamin Crocway by "Cyber-Forge Miniatures". Weighing in at an impressive 46mm, this figure comes from their "Star Force" release, and is strongly influenced by both the sculpting team's love for "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and the popularity of their previously released cybernetically-enhanced Crocko Bo STL (Standard Triangle Language) file.

"Anvil Digital Forge" WIPs - Three Corporate Security Force operatives

I've also managed to 3D print some of the multi-part figures released by "Anvil Digital Forge" as part of their Patreon programme. These miniatures were assembled using parts found in the Corporate Security Force and consist of three predominately single-piece male bodies "standing to attention armed with a shotgun close to the chest", plus a CorpSec body with a full-length trench coat.

As one might expect from a 'side-arm' of "Anvil Industry", the models are incredible modular, with a variety of separate heads, arms and weapons. In addition, this particular release includes some cool-looking motorbikers, so expect a few of them to make an appearance once I've finished working on my core unit of infantry...

Cheers Roger. Yeah, I believe WG lost the licence to make new Dr Who figures a while ago, but they only recently announced it - presumably for fear of losing sales in their Exterminate! game..? I understand that all their stock must go by the end of the year, hence the big final push before Christmas. A shame, as I'd certainly have bought at least one more Yeti set if not more if they were for sale.

Thought you'd like Captain Crocway. It's a fantastic sculpt imho, and definitely sold me the entire Space Force range just as soon as I saw it.

Great work on the yeti. The fur is top notch and that yellow you have used for the eyes is excellent and a great focal point for the miniature. I am a bit mystified as to why Warlord didn't sell these great sculpts when they had the Dr Who licence rather than give them away now. Very odd. Your Star Trek croc looks brilliant. Could be a Gorn who has joined Star Fleet! I am very impressed with your 3D sculpts, hey are excellent. Interested to see your Anvil Industry models fully painted so I can appreciate all the detail.

Thanks Undercoat. I believe the delay around the Web of Fear set was because the BBC or estate of Deborah Watling couldn't agree on Victoria Waterfield's sculpt. Hence the companion neither appears in this set or the Second Doctor & Companions one - at least that's what I recall reading on the WG Dr Who FB page at some point. WG certainly seem to have suffered a number of issues with the BBC agreeing the sculpts etc as it's been repeatedly raised as a reason for no new models being released for the range for the past couple of years.

There's definitely a Gorn feel to Captain Crocway. To be honest, I don't think you can see the excellent detail…

NIce work on the Yetis! They've never been my fave Dr Who monster but you've done a great job on painting them! I really like the skin tone you've got on Captain Crocway, it's got a solid reptilian look to it. And those security force models are really cool, looking forward to seeing them painted up!

Cheers Matt. I think these are my fave version of the Yeti tbh, as I like their web guns - and have one holding the weapon yet to paint up. I wanted the dirty brown look of a crocodile for Captain Crocway, so hopefully got it right. The Security Forces will definitely have a Mega-City look to them once finished - and I need to get them done quick as Anvil Industry have been relentless with their releases on Patreon, LOL!!!

The Yeti's look cool Simon, shame on the sets only being available with large purchases, making it difficult for a lot of people being able to get them.

The Croc looks great and would easily fit in as a Klegg as well.

The Security force looks good to.

Thanks Dave. I understand people being frustrated with having to fork out £75 on other minis to get the latest Dr Who figs from Warlord Games. But as I say above, they're not allowed to sell them so giving them away for free once a certain basket threshold has been reached at least means some people can get them. I've seen a lot of debate about the threshold being too high too. But bearing in mind these sets predominantly consist of five models (and three of this particular one are big), then I think the price point is appropriate. In addition, for the past few months WG have also been sending us another Dr Who mini for free with the…
