This 28mm scale plastic model of Terminator is produced by “Wizkids” and is miniature number 031a from their Avengers Infinity Marvel “Heroclix” range. Born in the Galadorian space colony, Thayri, Balin's home planet was ravaged by a plague caused by the Dire Wraiths and was created by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema for the January 1981 issue of "Rom" by "Marvel Comics".
"The only one of the cyborgs who did not have a human body to await his return" the figure was prised off of his 'clicky' base and super-glued on to a 25mm circular base. I then applied two coats of Colbalt Alchemy from the Metal n' Alchemy Steel Series boxed set by "Scalecolor"over the model, including the Galadorian's blacklight eyebeam effect.
Ordinarily I don't like figures with smoke, lasers or other weapon effects sculpted upon them, and usually cut, snip or file them off before painting. However, I actually had already done this to the first "Heroclix" model of Terminator I bought, and frankly struggled to salvage the unmitigated mess of a face such a removal caused. As a result I left well enough alone with this second miniature, and simply steeled myself to pigment the energy blast as best I could.
The first generation spaceknight was washed using plenty of "Citadel" Drakenhof Nightshade", and later dry-brushed with (more) "Scalecolor" Colbalt Alchemy. Finally, I carefully re-painted Terminator's blacklight eyebeams using a combination of "Vallejo" White and "Citadel" Drakenhof Nightshade. The effect was then carefully dry-brushed with (more) "Vallejo" White to bring out some of the sculpt's details.
Sticking with superheroes, I have made some progress on a couple more "Supers Unlimited" Miniatures by "Kitbash Games". Blue Scarab is taking a little longer to finish than I anticipated on account of all her boots and gloves needing to be treated to a fair few layers of "Vallejo" Gold, despite the areas being undercoated Heavy Brown beforehand. I have however, also managed to assemble my newly-acquired Battle Engine, and get the heavily-weaponed automaton primed and shaded.
I've also got to grips with a second of the Skeletons I recently acquired from the "Crooked Dice Game Design Studio" Fantasy range. The Undead warrior has been washed in some Strong Tone Quickshade by "The Army Painter", and had it's bones high-lighted using a combination of "Vallejo" Iraqi Sand and White...
