"I Saw The Boogeyman! I Saw Him!"

Updated: Oct 20, 2022

“He's gone! He's gone from here! The evil is gone!”

This 40mm resin model of Michael Myers was sculpted by Nikola Stankovic and 3D printed by "Encounter Terrain". The miniature is clearly based upon the primary antagonist in the "Halloween" film franchise created by John Carpenter, and not only stands in the mass murderer's signature knife-wielding stance. But also wears the evil killer's infamous William Shatner face mask.

The figure was initially undercoated with two layers of "Vallejo" Heavy Blue and absolutely drenched in "Citadel" Agrax Earthshade. He was then given the faintest of dry-brushes using (more) "Vallejo" Heavy Blue so as to try and keep the majority of its shading's grimy streaks intact. The homicidal maniac's shoes were simply 'picked out' with a little "Citadel" Abaddon Black.

"Crooked Dice Game Design Studio" WIPs - This Spybot has been base-coated and 'rusted up'

I next applied a combination of "Vallejo" Gunmetal and "Citadel" Nuln Oil to the chef's knife. and later dry-brushed the hand-weapon's edges with (more) "Vallejo" Gunmetal so as to help them stand out. Michael's mask was pigmented using "Vallejo" White and Pale Grey. Whilst his hair was given a coat of "Vallejo" Sienna and a generous helping of "Citadel" Agrax Earthshade.

Alongside my latest Zomtober Challenge entry, I have been working away on several miniatures for this month's other painting event - Dave Stone's Apocalypse Me. Having recently completed a band of skull-faced Killbots by "Crooked Dice Game Design Studio", I thought I would add to this post-apocalyptic American military contingent with some of the company's Matrix-inspired Spybots.

"North Star Military Figures" WIPs - This post-apocalyptic motorcyclist has been primed and dry-brushed

Originally, I had planned to paint just the domes of the five-robot strong squad in "Vallejo" Heavy Grey and do their tentacles, pincers and radar in bare metal. However, having tried this palette out on a test piece, I'm starting to favour doing the entire automaton in the fading, rusty green colour scheme instead.

Finally, having visited a couple of Toy Shows over the past few weeks I have found myself slightly swamped with all sorts of mad-looking "Hot Wheels" vehicles for my other Apocalypse Me inspired project - The Juice Cup. As a result I have purchased some additional Implements of Carnage plastic sprues by "North Star Military Figures" in order to 'arm them up'. Alongside the vast array of weapons, armour plating and riders, you also get some of their plastic motorcyclists for Gaslands, so I thought I had best paint at least one up to see how they take a brush-tip...

Another great cartoon sculpt. I like the paint scheme a lot. Your spybot has some matrix vibes for me and is looking great already. The motorbike is coming along nicely too.

Cheers Undercoat. I think the Michael Myers sculpt is excellent too. The spybots are definitely Matrix-inspired, and now I've repainted them I hope to have them finished soon. I'm super-pleased with how the pilot biker has turned out, and hope to have another couple finished shortly - albeit these ones have been converted to carry machine guns.

Great job on ol' Mike, he looks spot on! Oddly enough my fave Halloween movie is part three, mostly because it's batshit insane but also because of the adorable Stacey Nelkin :-)

I really like the design of the Spybot and although it's obviously inspired by The Matrix it wouldn't look amiss in a War of the Worlds type setting. The bike looks cool too!

Thanks Matt. Very pleased with how Mike Myers turned out, and I've a few more Horror inspired Zomtober entries to come too. More Cybermen first though.

The Spybots have now been repainted, and I just need to dedicate a hobby session to them before they're finished. Plus the biker is now done. 😀

Lovely work on Mr Myers mate, having recently re-watched all the "Halloween" movies (even the one he isn't in!) this is very topical for me 😉.

The spybot is a nasty looking piece, maybe if you just did his "pincers" on copper or brass it might lift him enough?

Nice bake, reminds me of the ones you used to get in the "Dark Future" box game. 20mm I assume?

Cheers Roger.

Cheers Roger. I must confess that Halloween III - the one without Myers in it - is by far my fave of the series. But I am a huge Tom Atkins fan.

The spybots have all been reprimed with "Vallejo" Heavy Grey, and I'm planning to just make them all rusty like the Killbots. I did consider your suggestion, albeit with Heavy Grey when I first started painting them. But again, I think for some reason any contrast between the torso and tentacles just doesn't work for these fellas - though I can't put my finger on why.

"Nice bake" - I do have several things cooking for my post-apocalyptic car game, LOL!!! I was actually really surprised by how…

Great work On Michael Simon, very iconic. I see what you mean with the spybot needing something on the tentacles, what about doing them in a Verdigris brass ? Nice looking bike, look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Thanks Dave. I'm finding Nikola's sculpts an absolute joy to paint, and whilst I accept his cartoony style might not be to everyone's tastes, I love 'em. I've loads more in the wings for sure, LOL!!

I think the problem with the Spybot is the tentacles literally drop out of the torso, so there's no real definitive line between them - something my black lining painting technique really struggles with. In addition, it just doesn't look right in my mind having a rusty top and not bottom... The CD official paintjob has them all one colour, so I've gone down that route now - albeit I'm doing mine green not dark blue/black.

The first biker will be just a black-suited…
