"Biddi-Biddi-Biddi."

“I'm freezing my ball-bearings off!”

This 28mm scale white metal model of a ‘family friendly servo-bot’ is produced by “Crooked Dice Game Design Studio” and can be bought as part of their two-figure blister SKU: DEAL 342 Robots 2. The sculpt is clearly strongly influenced by the automaton Twiki played by Felix Silla in Universal Studios’ 1979 science fiction television series “Buck Rogers In The 25th Century”, but somewhat surprisingly isn’t depicted carrying Doctor Theopolis over his chest.

The "ambuquad" was initially undercoated with two coats of “Vallejo” Gunmetal and shaded in “Citadel” Nuln Oil. He was then dry-brushed using (more) “Vallejo” Gunmetal before having his elbows ‘picked out’ with a little “Citadel” Abaddon Black. Finally, the robot’s eyes were given a spot or two of “Citadel” Seraphim Sepia to give them a hint of yellow.

"CoolMiniOrNot" WIPs - The Black Widow, Iron Man and Incredible Hulk

In addition to Twiki I have also been soldiering on with a handful of plastic 40mm models taken from the Marvel United core box set by "CoolMiniOrNot". My classic-coloured Black Widow has now had her eyebrows, lips and famous red hair base layered, so besides having her S.H.I.E.L.D. shoulder insignia being ‘picked out’ with “Vallejo” White and Pale Grey, she simply needs some shading and dry-brushing before being finished.

As a result, I’ve spent more time on the likes of Iron Man and managed to prime the third of my super-team’s members - the Incredible Hulk. I’m still in two minds whether or not to use some metallic red paint on Tony Stark’s alter-ego or not, so have made some progress on his armoured suit’s golden elements first. In the past I’ve always found “Vallejo” Gold to be a bit ‘flaky’ when applying it as a dry-brush, so such a move also means I don’t have to worry about having tiny spots of gold ruining the surrounding paint-job.

"Warlord Games" WIPs - This Weirdstone has been primed, shaded and dry-brushed

Perhaps this month’s biggest change of plans though has come with the arrival of my “Sláine: Kiss My Axe!” starter set by “Warlord Games”. I don’t have any experience with applying a brush to the Nottingham-based company’s new resin, so thought I’d start on the skirmish battle game’s large Weirdstone first. I have absolutely no idea what the scenic piece does in the rule-set, but it certainly seemed to take a nail file well whilst I was cleaning it up.

The model should also prove a reasonably quick project, as despite the sculpt containing a number of animal bones and skulls, as well as an impressive-looking rib-cage, it is predominantly a large rock with various runes engraved upon it. I’m also rather curious as to how the two MDF Celtic huts and Fences will ‘paint up’, so plan to give them a ‘go’ next once the magical totem (and perhaps its accompanying Drune Priest) is completed…

Ooo, that Twiki is bringing back memories of watching telly when I was a kid! Great work on him (it?), the metallics look great! Also loving the progress on the Marvel figures!

That monolith is a great sculpt and you've got a really good stone look to it. Looking forward to seeing all those bones painted up!

Cheers Matt. Hopefully my next Crooked Dice robot will bring back similarly strong memories 😉

I've plenty of the Slaine figures planned, just trying to find a hobby session here and there to squeeze them into my painting schedule.

Great stuff mate,, Tweeky is a smashing model and you've done him justice nicely, he often didn't have Theo with him when he was out on adventure with buck, or at all in the (ropey!) last series.

That Black Widow looks superb! Top ten here she comes I think! Nice progress on the other two as well, I'd definitely go metallic on Tony's red bits!

Slaine is one 2000AD strip I know absolutely nowt about, I think it started after I'd stopped buying the comic tbh, nice looking Monolith though.

Cheers Roger.

Thanks Roger. I must confess to only watching a couple of stories from Buck Rogers' second series, like Space 1999, I thought the follow-up season was dire.

Really enjoying the Marvel United stuff currently, and now Black Widow is finished, I'm hoping to squeeze her posting in before this month concludes. Presently working on Hulk as he seems to have caught my imagination next.

Loved Slaine when I used to read 2000 AD, so definitely interested in doing some gaming in his world. However, it's all a question of when I can fit his stuff in, LOL!!!

That is a great Twiki! Buck was one of my very young fav's as a lad. Nice to see his pal here.

Good stuff on the other stuff too. Not normally a chibi style fan, but these are fun sculpts and that rock looked pretty cool in the ad, glad it's easy to paint up. :)

Cheers Dai. Much appreciated. I too was a huge Buck Rogers fan as a kid, and got to meet Gil Gerard a few years back now at a comic con.

I must say I was a bit daunted with the Marvel United figures. But I'm really enjoying them currently, and the Weirdstone too. Hopefully I can get a few painted up in short order and start getting some games in.

Great job on Twiki. Looks great! Those chibis are superb. Black Widow is such a lovely model and that colour on Hulk is great. So vibrant, so comic book. That menhir thing is good too. A great selection of minis and painting.

Thanks Undercoat. Pleased with how quickly I managed to get Twiki finished. Should have the Black Widow posted soon too. I'm delighted with the colour on the Hulk too - especially as I'm sort of using both him and Iron Man as test pieces for my Marvel Crisis Protocol figures.

The Weirdstone is turning out well, and I've no problems so far with the new Warlord Games resin.

Cheers Simon. Simple stuff though as you can imagine. I am really enjoying the Marvel United figs - not sure why its taken me so long to start painting them tbh.
